Tomorrow Is Already Yesterday

Friday location:  Seven  |  Studio     ||     7:25 am – 9:35 pm

• Product Consulting:  The 3.0 eBike project looks like something will happen.  Electric bikes are for someone. F.B.
• Product Development:  Hup Honey Winter Time bike.  This is a cool bike.  A mix of rando, gravel, harsh weather.  A bit of everything but it will excel as a road bike, too.  I think it will fit 33c tires – I’m a fan of Jack Browns; I know, a bit odd for winter.  I’ve got some other options in the hopper, too.  That’s the plan anyway.  Thought about making it compatible with 650b wheels, too.  But I’ve decided that this isn’t a disc bike.  It’s a medium reach caliper brake bike.  Fender-able, big tires, and more.  A performance bike that can handle any road that a car once went down.  And a lot of single track, too.
• Business Management:  We did some good clinicing this evening at the Ride Studio – on the Cafe side.  Too rare that we get together and talk technical as a group.  I can’t wait until the next session.  So much to cover.  We could have spent three hours, easily, just discussing water temperature as relates to coffee brewing – and we only use three brew methods for customers.  I wish I had time to document some of what we’re covering.  Of course, there are lots of great sources for smart coffee thinking but I’ve come to realize that the good thinking is sometimes not so easy to discern from the bad thinking.  I guess that’s true in any industry; I’m just not so well versed in coffee so I’m more surprised when I see it.
• Product Development:  Hup Honey Cross bike.  Lots of good design elements have come together on this bike.  disc fork; tapered fork steerer; about 5 ounces lighter than the 1.0 Hup frame.  Kit is a mix of SRAM Rival/Red.  Great wheel.  Paint scheme coming together; very different from what Honey has done before.  That’s Hup for you!  I want to ride this bike when it’s done – maybe before it’s done.
• Business Development:  Worked on the new cafe menu today.  Both the contents and the physical menu system.  Actually the menu contains two distinct menu systems:  the wall board and the hand menu.  The next gen wall board is up and limping along.  the printed menu is a lifetime away, today.

Thursday location:  Seven  |  6:40 am – 9:55 pm

• Product Development:  Honey Bike for Hup.  First one into production is the cyclocross bike.  Posted some new photos today.  Cutting metal today.  Lots of details that are new and different.  Some new tube butting; oversized seat tube, 44 mm head tube, superlight seatstays.  More and more.  Mike S. – framebuilder for these first frames – is knocking it out of the park.
• Product Development:  Honey Race bikes.  The first two production framesets are just about complete.  Agonizing over the colorways right now.  Everything else is ready to go.   The RSC Team will be riding these first designs by next weekend.  Posted a few photos.
• Graphic Design:  Made some progress on the Ride Studio Cafe Racers’ 2013 team kit today.  Working with Craft.  Their gear is great and we look forward to designing some worthy clothing.  I’ve got three designs ideas rolling around right now.  Hoping to finalize the design by Sunday evening.

Wednesday location:  Seven  |  Studio     ||     8:05 am – 9:50 pm

• Time Marker:  It’s kind of Honey week for me.  Too many Honey deadlines looming.  I think we’re going to meet them all though.  Eight new designs in all.
• Product Development:  We’re just getting a new tube bending system online for Honey Bikes.  It’s particularly interesting to me because it’s mainly a found item die.  I’ll post pictures at some point.  It’s pretty top secret right now though.
• Product Development:  Making good progress on the latest Hup Honey Cyclocross project.  Overall design complete.  Colorways in play.  Kit options are getting interesting.  Complete for next weekend.
• Product Development:  Have begun in earnest on the limited edition Hup Honey Winter Time bike.  This is a take on the Honey Weather bike.  This new Winter Time is coming together in a really interesting way.  Every bike seems to becoming a niche of one.

• Words from a Smart Person:  Constance mentioned the Tomorrow is Already Yesterday project today.  Flattered that she saw this.  It’s funny to me because she is so prolific – and provides continuously deep topics.  All I can do is account for the day; she’s actually providing content that is both helpful and interesting to people.  Embarrassed that I just saw this; yet another example of me always being behind.
• Time Marker:  Just posted some Ride Studio partner supplier highlights from 2012.  Some good work that Patria and the Studio have done.  Excited to see what 2013 brings.

Monday location:  Seven  ||  8:20 am – 9:15 pm

• Time Marker:  John Lewis told me today that Seven’s sixteenth anniversary was yesterday.  He wanted a quote for the Seven blog; I said how about this, “what?”  I totally forgot it was our anniversary.  Actually, in order to forget you first have to remember.  It’s good to be reminded.  Ultimately, I told him the best way for me to appreciate our anniversary is to be very thankful to every customer we’ve had over the past 15 years.  One of my many flaws is that I’m not a celebrator.  It’s a date on the calendar.  The celebration is the people make the 16 years possible:  every one of Seven’s employees, customers, and business partners.
• Product Development:  Honey Race bikes.  Worked on final details of the tube geometries.  Frame geometries just about completed.  Twelve sizes of stock bike to fit riders from about 4′ 10″ to 6′ 9″.  Also worked on complete bike kits and pricing.  It looks like we’ll come in right on target.  More tomorrow.
• Star Struck:  Mo Bruno Roy visited Seven today for a top secret photo shoot.  This was not a Seven project.  It’s for a magazine.  I can’t say what until it’s published.  It’ll hit soon.  That’s Mo to the right.
