- Speaking: I just got invited to speak at a bicycle materials symposium. Looks interesting. No time to prepare anything worthwhile. More later. Flattered to be invited to this engineering symposium.
- Retail Management: I was discussing the changing landscape of retail in the United States today. It’s going to be an interesting season for many small bicycle builders – and for large bike suppliers. Really, for everyone. More so than during some previous years. Retailers are getting pushed hard by big suppliers that wield some big sticks. Margins are too tight, pressure is very high, consolidation means options are few. In some ways it’s what’s been happening for years in the industry. In some ways it’s all been taken up a notch by some recent events. I’m glad I’m working with Seven Cycles!
- Graphic Design: Seven Cycles’ latest ad is out in Cyclocross Magazine. Thanks to Dave Chiu, Matt Roy, and Skunk for making it happen.
- Ride Event: Fall Five route scouting. All the routes are completed as sketches. This evening Patria and I finalized three of the five routes. Only two more to go. Jay R. helping with one of them – the killer ‘mountain stage.’
- Stage 1: Time Trial: 2.0 mile out and back. Great course with a difficult hilltop finish. Two town-line sprints up for grabs.
- Stage 2: Point-to-Point: Starting at Keyks Bakery in Chelmsford. Town-line sprint prizes included.
- Stage 3: Mountain Stage: My favorite. Don’t snicker, there are mountains in the Lexington area.
- Stage 4: Circuit Race: This one will hurt.
- Stage 5: Criterium Race: This one will hurt the most. Six very short laps around two circles. Primes included.
- Ride Project: Worked on the High Point Ride today. It’s a big project that’s not going to happen until next season. But, I’m planning for it now.
