One of the best aspects of sponsorship is working on project bikes that I know will get put through the toughest of paces. This prototype is for Mo Bruno Roy. She’s going to be racing it this season and testing some new process ideas and design concepts in the MoHoney bike.
The final product name is Mudhoney PRO.
We started working with Mo in September 2008. I remember we built her first two bikes in less than a week – just before her first race. Official order date was September 17. Delivery was October 2: two weeks and one day. The most time consuming part was deciding on frame design; they requested that we match the design of Mo’s previous bike.
Project Update | November 15 | Met with Mo Bruno Roy and Matt Roy today to work on Mo’s latest bike design: PRO 2.0. As Matt put it, the original prototype Mudhoney PRO was, “more prototype than pro.” I know what he means. We’re working on 2.0 right now. Taking all of Mo’s feed back – and even some of Matt’s – to create the next generation bike that Mo will be racing all around the world.

November 15 | Muddy Mudhoney PRO.
October 23 | Press about Mo on her Mudhoney PRO.
October 1 | Mo is rocking the bikes
September 10 | Working on 2013 decal scheme for Mo’s bike #3 – the Mudhoney Pro. For this bike Jordan and I are doing a different design. The bike is completely different so Matt Roy thought a design that would stand out next to the twins might be good. We’re going different but not radically different. We’re keeping it classy San Diego.
August 29, 2012 | Jordan L. and I are working on Mo’s 2013 bike graphics. First bike just about complete. As always, the bike graphics have to try to match the super-clean aesthetics of Matt Roy’s mechanical work on Mo’s bikes. She’s got a set of three Sevens and they’re all going to look Sharp. Can’t wait to see them all together. Matt’s building up the bikes next week. Cross season is here.
Sept 30 | Frameset delivered to Matt Roy. He’s building it tonight for Mo’s race tomorrow. Cutting it a bit close.
Sept 14 | Working in the lugs. A lot of hand work. Too much hand work. At least 100 hours into this so far.
September 9, 2011 | Official start of the project. We’ve been talking about this bike for a while but it’s officially getting started today. We’ve got a very short deadline on completing this.
August 12, 2011 | We’ve been talking with Matt Roy and Mo about this project. We’re definitely going to build one for Mo. Working on details now. We’re on a tight timeline because we want her riding the MoHoney by the time the season begins: early September.
June 6, 2011 | We’re looking at employing the 622 design ideas into a cross bike version. Mo Bruno Roy might be the test pilot.
